Growing up in a family of artists, his cellist mother would bring him to her rehearsals and performances of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra. It ignited his passion for music and theater and exposed him to different genres at a very young age; fascinated by opera, ballets, symphonies – he knew he was meant to be a musician.

He learned how to play the violin at the Philippine Research for Developing Instrumental Soloists (PREDIS) at the age of 9 under Ma. Rosario Molina-Cruz. Renowned Opera singers Pablo and Camille Molina became his voice teachers. Since then, he hasn't stopped playing and singing in different productions, orchestras, concerts, and performances.

Matthew Chang (pronouns he/him) is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, musical director and theater actor. Some of his works include Mula Sa Buwan 2018(Vocal Arranger and Actor), Dekada ‘70 ni Lualhati Bautista the Musical (Composer and Musical Director), Still: A ViU Original Musical Narrative Series (Composer, Musical Director and Actor), Balang Araw: Nica del Rosario’s 12-year celebration concert (Musical Director).  His recent works include a collaboration with Bullet Dumas, Baihana and Bojam entitled “Hindi Na Muli”, the violin track for “Rosas” with Nica del Rosario and BGYO’s current single entitled “Panahon”.
