Actor, Director, Sound Designer, Scorer, Moderator of Teatro Baguntao (Ateneo Senior High School)

Cholo is a theatre artist who acts, directs, devises, produces, and designs sound and music for the stage. He graduated with a psychology degree and a Loyola Schools Award for the Arts in Theatre Arts (Performance) from the Ateneo de Manila University in 2018, and is a proud alumnus of Tanghalang Ateneo (TA). He is the director/moderator of Teatro Baguntao, a student theater group in the Ateneo de Manila Senior High School.

Cholo was last seen on stage as the “indigo child” Kali in Ardór (TA, 2023), a performance cited as one of the best of 2023 in Rappler’s end-of-year theater review. His other acting credits include: Sari-Saring Soneto (Areté, 2023), Si Maria Isabella at ang Guryon ng mga Tala (Sustainable Eco-Theater, 2023), Balay Dolor (TA, 2020),  Alpha Kappa Omega (TA, 2019), The Plague (Dramatis Personae, 2018), Lysistrata ng Bakwit (TA, 2018), RD3RD / Richard III (Areté, 2018), Werk in Progress (Black Canvas / FringeMNL, 2017), Boy (TA, 2016), R.U.R. (TA, 2015), and the award-winning Rite of Passage: Sa Pagtubu kang Tahud (TA, 2014), for which he was nominated for Best Actor in a Non-Musical at the 28th ALIW Awards. In 2018, he co-translated and performed an English version of Rolando Tinio’s May Katwiran ang Katwiran in Yogyakarta, Indonesia for the 11th Asia Pacific Bond of Theater Schools Festival. He has done voiceover work for a couple of short films screened in international festivals as well.


Most recently, Cholo directed “Shiver” by Atria Pacaña, a staged reading featured in the 19th annual Virgin Labfest (CCP, 2024), and was a co-dramaturg for a staged reading of Qui Nguyen’s She Kills Monsters (Jungle Gym, 2024). For Teatro Baguntao, Cholo has directed Ang Bakkhai (2024), Sunod: Isang Oryentasyon (2023), Meron Pa Bang Mabuting Mag-aaral? (2022), P***! (2021), Pagbabaguntao (2021), and May Katwiran ang Katwiran (2020). His directorial process with his students prioritizes democratic and playful collaboration, anchored by the adaptation of classic theatrical texts.

Cholo served as Sound Designer and Music Composer for WOMB: Wor(l)d of my Bodies (Black Canvas, 2021) and the Ateneo Fine Arts thesis productions Welcome to IntelStar and Bulagang! (2021). He was the Sound Designer for Next to Normal (Ateneo Blue Repertory, 2020).  He was an Associate Producer for the critically acclaimed Stop Kiss (+space, MusicArtes, and New Voice Company, 2019), Production Manager for Ang Apologia ni Sokrates (ADMU Philosophy Department, 2019), and Co-PM of RD3RD (Areté, 2018).


Cholo  is currently completing his MA in Counseling Psychology at the Ateneo de Manila University. He integrates his art and mental health practice as one of the pioneers of Jungle Gym Play Laboratory (IG/FB: @junglegymplaylab), a group of interdisciplinary artists exploring the intersection of art, games, and community action. Additionally, he is a psychotherapy associate at MAGIS Creative Spaces, an expressive arts clinic.
