Ayen is an award-winning actress, singer and producer whose career has spanned more than 30 years in the industry. She honed her craft with formal voice training at the University of Sto.Tomas, Conservatory of Music and later on, took up Theatre Arts at the University of the Philippines under the tutelage of National Artist for Theatre, Antonio Mabesa.
Her biggest break came when she essayed the role of Sita in Ballet Philippines’ Rama Hari at the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 1990. Since then she has portrayed the roles of Flerida in Tanhalang Pilipino’s Florante at Laura and Meni in Banaag at Sikat, the title role of Bidasari in Bulwagang Gantimpala’s Bidasari. Ayen also played Sandy in Grease, Diana Morales in A Chorus Line, Timoune in Once on This Island and Kat Vernon in Floy Quintos’ LIVES.
Ayen’s most memorable role to date was that of Gia Almonte/Atang Dela Rama in Dulaang UP’s ATANG – Dulang May Musika for which she won the 2009 Aliw Award for Best Actress.
Ayen returned to the concert scene in 2018 at the CCP with her husband Franco Laurel in their sold-out show Kitang Dalawa. She was recently part of CCP’s Out-Of-The-Box Isang Gabi Ng Sarsuwela.
Ayen is a familiar face on television having done quite a number of teleseryes such as GMA’s Amaya, Temptation of Wife, and Start Up and ABS-CBN’s Born For You, Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin and Sino Ang May Sala – Mea Culpa. She will soon be seen in HBO’s Call My Manager.
She has three films to her credit beginning with Sigwa, followed by Here Comes The Bride and Ang Huling Henya.
Ayen has two recording albums Ayen (2002) and Thankful (2004). In 2003 She won the AWIT Award for Best Music Video and Best Performance in a Music Video for the song Bawat Gabi from her self-titled album.
